Jazmine Sullivan

JazmineJazmine is a Philadelphia native is a native of Philadelphia, and was raised in the city. Pam, Jazmine's mother, is a former back-up singer of Philadelphia International Records. At the age of five, her father was appointed as the curator of Strawberry Mansion Section. Strawberry Mansion Section. Her family eventually moved into this iconic building. Sullivan started singing as a contralto in the youth choir and after a couple of years, she joined the adult choir. The exposure Sullivan had to secular music was initially minimal "I had solos singing in the church and was approached by someone to go on an evangelical label when I had turned eleven, however I wasn't at the point of doing that," she recalls. "Then when McDonald's offered a competition to children in cities of the world, I got a chance to perform 'Accept what God Does' on Showtime on the Apollo and the audience loved it". Stevie Wonder sang her part on the day of the birthday celebrations of her son at the age of 13. Sullivan made her first signing with Jive Records when she was 15. She was signed to Jive Records around the age of fifteen. She produced an entire album, but the album didn't get released. Sullivan was later dropped from the label. The singer had a great working partnership and Missy Elliott. Elliott produced numerous tracks for her, including "Backstabbers" the track that was written by Timbaland.
